Three Tottenham youngsters to watch out for in 2017

Mauricio Pochettino’s side haven’t had the best of starts to the season, having said that, they have only suffered two Premier League defeats so far this campaign.

Spurs have struggled to keep pace with their achievements last term; however, this may be more to do with other sides improving than Spurs getting worse.

One thing is for sure though; the Lilywhites will be massively disappointed about the manner in which they were dumped out of the Champions League, having thought so hard last season to qualify.

However, Tottenham still do have a lot to play for during the second half of the season. They’ll be desperate to grab one of those top 4 places and qualify for the Champions League come what May, so that they can put right what happened this campaign in the next one. They’ll also be looking to make some headway in the Europa League where they are amongst the favourites to win the competition.

Normally around this time of year clubs are searching the market far and wide for players that could add something special to their side, Spurs will be no different. However, people often forget that a young player could find his mojo and really add a new dynamic to a team. With that said here’s THREE Tottenham youngsters to watch out for in 2017.

Harry Winks

Harry Winks has been nothing short of sensational since he broke into the side last month. The 20-year-old has the footballing intelligence of a seasoned pro, not a Premier League newbie.

Winks controls games for Tottenham in Pirlo-esque fashion, and as he racks up more minutes he’s bound to get even better, a scary thought for Spurs’ rivals. It would not at all surprise us if this young man was to get an England call-up by the end of the season – you heard it here first!

Cameron Carter-Vickers

Mauricio Pochettino has described Cameron Carter-Vickers as having the potential to be one of, if not the, best defender in the Premier League. Impressing throughout his time in the Spurs youth teams and already having been called up to the USA national team the future is certainly bright for the 18-year-old.

Carter-Vickers combines composed play on the ball with outstanding defensive skills to epitomise the modern defender. He may find it hard to break up the exceptional Vertonghen, Alderweireld pairing, however, with Spurs dropping down to the Europa league he is bound to get plenty of minutes during the second half of the campaign. He is definitely one to watch.

Marcus Edwards

Marcus Edwards is deemed the jewel in Spurs’ academy crown. He starred during Tottenham’s preseason games but has since suffered a minor setback due to injury, with a return expected in the next few weeks.

The 18-year-old possesses magical feet that the ball appears to be glued to at times, which has even lead to Mauricio Pochettino likening him to his compatriot Lionel Messi. High praise indeed, but you can really see in the way the young Englishman moves why such comparisons are viable. We here at Shoot! would not be surprised if this young talent stole the show in 2017.
