1. Roy Carroll (Northern Ireland)

Carroll is expected to play at his first major international tournament

With Northern Ireland making their first appearance at a major championship in 30 years, they’re going to have to take an experienced goalkeeper and that number one is none other than former Wigan, West Ham and Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll. After Carroll’s infamous ‘wonder save’ for Manchester United against Tottenham’s Pedro Mendes in 2005, many may be forgiven for assuming that Carroll’s days at the top level were numbered and that he’d certainly never play at a major European Championship. Carroll has been at a number of clubs since then() but nevertheless he has still managed to hold his own in the Northern Ireland side since coming back into the squad in 2012 and having made five appearances for the Irish during qualification, it seems very likely he’ll have a seat on the plane to France next year.
