Top 3: Chelsea players in the 2-1 win against Rennes as midfielder continues to impress

Chelsea sealed qualification to the Champions League knockout phase with two group games to spare after a late 2-1 win against Rennes.

Frank Lampard’s side looked as though they would have to settle for a draw after Serhou Guirassy’s goal cancelled out Callum Hudson-Odoi’s first half opener.

But substitute Olivier Giroud had other ideas as he headed home in the 91st minute to take the Blues to 10 points after four matches.

As well as the French striker, a number of other Chelsea players impressed in France.

But who were the standout individuals in Frank Lampard’s team?

Here are out top 3 Chelsea players in the 2-1 Champions League win against Rennes…

3. Olivier Giroud

The Frenchman has had to be patient for an opportunity this season but he certainly delivered when he got his chance against Rennes. Although he only came on with 23 minutes remaining, the 34-year-old made the decisive contribution when he headed home in stoppage time to secure all three points. Gives Lampard a different option up top and will now hope he can add to his 127 minutes of club football he’s played this term.

2. Callum Hudson-Odoi

Another attacking player who has found opportunities limited is Callum Hudson-Odoi. However, Lampard may have to start thinking about how he can give the Englishman more minutes after his display against Rennes. After setting up Timo Werner for a golden chance, he opened the scoring with a well taken finish. Looked dangerous in the 75 minutes he played.

1. Mason Mount

Tried as one of a forward-three at the start of the season, Mason Mount has now really started to shine back in a more familiar central midfield role. The England international was outstanding against Rennes which is why we have given him Chelsea’s player of the match. Lively in and out of possession for the 67 minutes he played, the 21-year-old also registered a fantastic assist when he set-up Hudson-Odoi’s opening goal.
