Top 3 Premier League Goals of the Weekend

Matchday 2 of the 2020/21 Premier League season produced a record-breaking amount of goals.

In total, 44 were scored across the 10 matches which beat the previous leading total of 43 set back in February 2011.

But with the ball hitting the back of the net on so many occasions, which strikes were the best? We’ve had a go at picking our top three from a brilliant matchweek…

3. Helder Costa (Leeds United)

The Portugal international impressed for Leeds in the defeat at Liverpool on the opening day and continued that with a classy brace in the 4-3 win over Fulham – the first goal of which was this unstoppable half volley.

2. Phil Foden (Man City)

Don’t get us wrong, there were some stunning long range efforts this weekend but this well worked team goal was special from Man City. Started and finished off by Phil Foden, Pep Guardiola’s team simply carved through a very good Wolves side.

1. Matheus Pereira (West Brom)

In the Baggies’ 5-2 defeat at Everton, Grady Diangana opened the scoring with a contender for goal of the week but we’ve instead opted for the strike of teammate Matheus Pereira. The 24-year-old got off the mark in the Premier League with a well taken free-kick which gave Jordan Pickford no chance.
