Top 3: Premier League goals of the weekend

The Premier League kicked off the 2020/21 season at the weekend and, as usual, we were treated to plenty of superb goals.

In the six matches played over Saturday and Sunday, the ball struck the back of the net 17 times with seven of those coming in Liverpool’s thrilling 4-3 win over Leeds United.

So which of those strikes was the best? We’ve had a go at the tricky task at selecting our top three…

3. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal’s star man and goal machine carried off where he left off last season by bagging a superb third goal in the Gunners’ 3-0 win at Fulham. The Gabon international chest controlled the ball on the run on the left hand side and drove into the box before curling a superb right foot finish past Marek Rodak. A top-class goal from a top-class player.

2. Mateusz Klich

Leeds United have been away from the top-flight for 16 years and they put in a real fighting performance at the home of the champions, scoring three times in a 4-3 defeat. Jack Harrison’s first for the Whites was certainly a contender but we feel that the third, scored by Mateusz Klich, edged it. After some lovely build up, Helder Costa threaded a lovely pass through to the midfielder who took one touch before unleashing a fierce volley into the corner.

1. Mohamed Salah

Mo Salah was the man of the weekend after netting match-winning hat-trick in Liverpool’s thrilling win. To add to that, we also feel he scored the goal of the weekend with his stunning second. With the score at 2-2, the Egyptian controlled a loose ball in the area and rifled a left-footed half volley straight into the top corner. What a start for the 28-year-old.
