The 2020/21 Premier League season is fast approaching and it again promises to be a fascinating campaign.

All 20 clubs have been busy in the transfer market – either attempting or striking deals for new faces to freshen up their squads.

Leeds United have been the busiest team so far by securing the signatures of six players ahead of their return to the top-flight.

But when it comes to value for money, which have been the best transfer deals so far? We pick our five which we think will prove to be a real bargain.

Adam Lallana (Brighton – Free)

Brighton won the race to snap up Adam Lallana after his contract with Liverpool expired in the summer. Although he’s not played a lot of football over the past three seasons due to injury and the form of his teammates, the 32-year-old will add experience and a winning mentality to a Seagulls squad which has spent the last two seasons fighting off relegation. Yes the Sussex side are handing the 34-time England international a decent salary, but if he can stay fit he will be worth every penny considering they haven’t paid a transfer fee.

Antonee Robinson (Fulham – £2million)

After securing promotion back to the Premier League, Fulham quickly pounced to secure the signature of Antonee Robinson from Wigan Athletic. The 23-year-old was one of the standout left-backs in the Championship last term and has developed his game since leaving Everton in 2019. In the January transfer window the United States international came close to moving to AC Milan for £10million only for it to fall through due to a heart rhythm irregularity. Seven months later and the Cottagers have benefitted by signing him up for a fifth of that fee at just £2million.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Tottenham Hotspur – £15million)

Spurs’ first summer signing was that of Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Maybe not a name that will get fans off their seats but one that could prove a shrewd bit of business at £15million. The Dane has a tough, winning mentality having previously played at Bayern Munich and – at St Mary’s – showed his leadership qualities by captaining the side. Don’t expect goals and assists but do expect him to make Jose Mourinho’s side harder to break down.

Pablo Mari (Arsenal – £7.2million)

Central defender Pablo Mari joined Arsenal initially on loan in January from Flamengo. Despite having only made three appearances due to injury, Mikel Arteta saw enough in that time to want to add him to what has been a leaky backline. The 26-year-old looked commanding when he did play and – in the 204 minutes he was on the pitch – the Gunners failed to concede. Still sidelined he will probably miss the start of the season but could – at £7.2million – prove a great buy once he does return.

Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea – £33.3million)

Now to a player who did cost north of £30million but one we feel will prove an absolute steal in the current market for a player with such ability. Hakim Ziyech has been starring for Ajax over the past four seasons, registering a remarkable 48 goals and 82 assists in just 165 matches. Now 27, the Morocco international has the swagger to come and perform in the Premier League. With Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner also amongst the Blues’ attackers, Frank Lampard’s team will continue to be an entertaining watch.
