Ahead of Matchday Seven in the Premier League this weekend, SHOOT takes a look at the early front runners for the 2018-19 Premier League Golden Boot award.

League leaders Liverpool are the only club in the English top-flight to boast a 100 per cent record, though they face a stern test to keep up their perfect start to the campaign when they travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, having lost 2-1 to Chelsea in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Reds forward Mohamed Salah was crowned the 2017-18 Golden Boot winner last term after his spectacular debut season at Anfield, with the Egyptian netting a remarkable 32 goals in just 36 league games for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Brighton and Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray is sixth in the goalscoring charts with four Premier League goals this season.

However, Salah is only 11th in the goalscoring charts so far this season, having found the back of the net three times for The Reds.

With Liverpool, defending league champions Manchester City and Chelsea all remaining unbeaten so far this campaign, each of these clubs have a front runner in our following Top 5 feature, and will be hoping their top goalscorer can fire them to the league title come May.

But who are they?

SHOOT take a closer look at the Top 5 early contenders for the 2018-19 Golden Boot award… Enjoy!

Eden Hazard (Chelsea) – 5 goals

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard is top of the goalscoring charts after six matches, with five goals and two assists respectively.

The 27-year-old has registered nine shots, with seven being on target, and netted a hat-trick against newly promoted Cardiff City earlier this month.

Hazard is averaging just 79 minutes per league goal so far this term.

Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham) – 5 goals

A surprise contender is Serbia international striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Fulham’s star man also has five strikes to his name this season, having found the back of the net five times in his last five Premier League outings, including a brace against Burnley.

The 24-year-old summer signing from Newcastle United has struck 12 shots on target from 23 attempts at goal.

Sergio Agüero (Manchester City) – 4 goals

Manchester City legend Sergio Agüero is never, ever far off the top of the goalscoring charts.

The 30-year-old is third in the rankings, despite failing to find the back of the net in four of his six league appearances this season.

However, Agüero’s hat-trick against Huddersfield Town back in August is a gentle reminder of how prolific the Argentine can be!

Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United) – 4 goals

Despite Manchester United’s rocky start to the campaign, forward Romelu Lukaku has racked up four goals in his last five league games.

The 25-year-old Belgian scored twice at Burnley earlier this month to kick start his goalscoring tally, and will be hoping to get on the scoresheet at West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

Sadio Mané (Liverpool) – 4 goals

And finally, currently in fifth spot, is Liverpool winger Sadio Mané.

The 26-year-old Senegal international hit the ground running on the opening day of the season, netting twice against West Ham, and is currently outshining defending Golden Boot winner Mo Salah so far this season.
