4. Wycombe Wanderers (League Two)

Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe performed brilliantly to ear a replay at Aston Villa

Aston Villa extended their winless run to 16 games and 109 days as boss Remi Garde looks for his first victory since succeeding Tim Sherwood.

However, this time, it was largely due to an excellent Wycombe performance, especially as the Chairboys trailed 1-0 at half time due to Villa captain Micah Richards’ finish.

Five minutes after the interval, referee Michael Oliver deemed Ashley Westwood to have fouled Matt Bloomfield inside the area, and left-back Joe Jacobson duly dispatched from the spot.

Before the game some people joked whether or not Villa were indeed the favourites against their promotion chasing opponents from League Two, but it is fair to say that Gareth Ainsworth’s side were more than thrilled at securing a replay at Villa Park.
