Top 5: Five Premier League players that could make a difference in the season run-in

3. Jermain Defoe (Sunderland)

Past it? I hardly think so.

A resurgent Defoe has silenced all critics by scoring 15 times in 27 appearances for Sunderland this season.

Goals when you’re fighting for your life are massive, and that is exactly what Defoe provides.

He should; in my opinion, be a contender for Roy Hodgson’s 25-man England squad that will travel to France for the Euros this summer, yet he has hardly been mentioned.

He is the Three Lions’ second most prolific striker this season and is a real gem for Sunderland to have in a relegation battle.
