It’s not often the case that the man between the sticks finds himself up front putting goals away, stepping up for free-kicks and penalties during a game, but it’s not unheard of.
In their pre-season game against Paris Saint-Germain at the weekend, Chelsea ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois stepped up to fire home the winning spot kick for Jose Mourinho’s side, having made two saves earlier in the shootout.
Whilst a goalkeeper stepping up to take a spot kick in a shootout does happen frequently, there is an elite group of shot stoppers who have also made a name for themselves as goalscorers on a regular basis throughout their careers.
