2. James Milner (Liverpool)
Mr Versatile looked a shoe-in for this squad at the start of the season. However the unexpected emergence of Danny Drinkwater, in my mind, has thrown Milner’s place into doubt.
If it was solely down to a player’s form, Milner’s Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson would also be in danger. However, Hodgson’s loyalty towards the spine of his team remain intact and Henderson will definitely be on the plane.
Milner; meanwhile, has looked uninspiring and his display against the Netherlands, in which he captained the Three Lions, was of a similar fashion.
Drinkwater looked a lot more comfortable on the ball and, as a result, received the sponsor’s Man of the Match award on his international bow.
