Top 5: Players that could miss out on Roy Hodgson’s EURO 2016 England squad

3. Leighton Baines (Everton)

Used to be an integral part of the England team, but those few words are important… ‘used to be’.

A poor showing in Brazil coupled with injuries has seen Baines slip out of the England picture in recent months and Ryan Bertrand has adequately filled his place.

Baines has been restricted to just 11 Premier League appearances this season for Everton due to injury.

As well as Bertrand, the Everton full-back will now have to compete for a place with Danny Rose, who has arguably been the best left-back in the Premier League this season.

Rose made a flawless debut against Germany on Saturday but appeared nervy on his Wembley debut, which could allow Baines a way back into the squad.

I fully expect Baines, who offers the most experience out the three left-back options, to be competing for a place until the last day of the season, but his lack of game time this term could see him miss out.
