Top 5: Players that could miss out on Roy Hodgson’s EURO 2016 England squad

1. Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)

Potentially the most shocking and controversial of them all – and it isn’t because of fitness concerns.

Although Sturridge has four goals in eight Premier League games this season, his performance against Holland was disappointing.

National team manager Hodgson afforded the injury-prone frontman a chance to show off in front of an almost full Wembley Stadium, and he simply did not take it.

If Sturrridge does makes the cut, he will be either fourth or fifth-choice striker (depending on whether Danny Welbeck operates as a forward or wide midfielder) – a position that, in a one striker system, England do not need and could be used much better in taking another midfielder to France.
