Oleg Salenko (Russia vs Cameroon)
To this day, Salenko is still the record holder for being the only player to score five goals in a single World Cup match – against Cameroon in 1994.
Despite winning the match 6-1, Russia did not manage to progress into the knockout stages of the competition after suffering defeats to both Brazil and Sweden.
However, the striker did net once more in the group stages, which made him the joint top scorer in the contest. His international career didn’t last too long though as these six goals were the only times he scored in his eight international appearances.
