4. Arsenal 0-2 West Ham United (August 9)

On the opening weekend of the season, West Ham ended a run of nine straight league defeats against Arsenal as the Hammers won their first Premier League game under new manager Slaven Bilic.

Summer signing Petr Cech misjudged Dimitri Payet’s free-kick to allow Cheikhou Kouyate to nod the Hammers ahead just before half-time.

After the break, Mauro Zarate was gifted the ball by the Gunners defence and finished with aplomb from 20 yards, with Cech once again seemingly at fault due to his positioning.

Arsenal had 62% of possession and 22 shots, but only six went on target; Aaron Ramsey’s first-half shot which struck against the bar was the closest they came.

Reece Oxford became the second-youngest player to start a Premier League game at the age of 16 years and 237 days. He symbolised West Ham’s never say die attitude, screening his defence superbly in midfield.
