Top 5: Premier League 2018/19 young players so far

Ahead of Matchweek 10 in the Premier League, SHOOT takes a look at the young guns who have caught the eye so far this term.

The likes of Raheem Sterling (23) and Anthony Martial (22) are still young, but we’re concentrating on the players aged 21 and under.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are the only three teams to remain unbeaten, but just one starlet from those clubs is represented on our list of five.

The other four players, who look set to stay at the very top level for years to come, ply their trade for Arsenal, Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth.

But who are they?

SHOOT takes a closer look at the Top 5 2018/19 Premier League young performers so far… Enjoy!

James Maddison (Leicester City)

Maddison has caught the eye in the top-flight.

After shining for Norwich City in the Championship last season, Leicester City took the punt on James Maddison in the summer.

And so far, the step-up in class has suited the 21-year-old playmaker, known for his deadly set-pieces and vision, right down to the ground.

With three goals, two assists and a number of eye-catching performances, the ex-Coventry City youngster was rewarded with a call-up to the England senior squad for Octobers Nations League matches.

Matteo Guendouzi (Arsenal)

Guendouzi has been involved more than initially expected sue to his impressive form in pre-season.

Despite having not started every game for the Gunners this term, the young Frenchman is a must on this list.

A player with energy, an eye for a pass and, most noticeably, real leadership skills, the 19-year-old seems mature beyond his years.

Unai Emery will be glad he didn’t send the midfielder out on loan following his summer switch from Lorient as he’s been an important part of the squad so far, playing seven top-flight games.

Joe Gomez (Liverpool)

Gomez is becoming a key player for both Liverpool and England.

Whether it’s been at right-back or centre-back, the Liverpool defender has been the standout young star of the season to date.

A player with pace, awareness, strength and fantastic distribution, the ex-Charlton player is rightfully receiving heaps of praise.

Starring for England in their recent Nations League win in Spain, the 21-year-old is a potential future Three Lions captain.

David Brooks (Bournemouth)

Brooks has starred since moving to the Cherries.

Having shown his talents in the red and white of Sheffield United, the 20-year-old, made the £11.5million step-up to Bournemouth.

And, like the previously mentioned James Maddison, he’s not been fazed by top-flight football, scoring twice in eight appearances.

An attacking midfielder that glides past opponents and is lethal in the final third, the Wales international is an exciting player to watch.

Ruben Neves (Wolves)

Neves signed for Wolves from FC Porto for £15million in 2017.

It was clear to see in Wolves’ Championship winning season last term that their star midfielder had the ability to excel in the Premier League.

And the 21-year-old has more than lived up to that expectation with his performances in a decent start for the Molineux outfit.

The Portugal international, who played for FC Porto in the Champions League at the age of 17, showed his quality with a beautiful free-kick in the opening day 2-2 draw against Everton.
