The 2017-18 Premier League season is over, with Manchester City blowing the rest of the competition away, breaking records left, right and centre to lift their first top-flight title since 2014.

Finishing on a record 100 points following Sunday’s last-gasp victory at Southampton, having netted a remarkable 106 goals throughout their 38 league games, nearest rivals Manchester United fell 19 points short in second place.

At the other end of the table; all three newly promoted sides, Brighton and Hove Albion, Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United defied the odds to preserve their Premier League status, whilst Swansea City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion suffered relegation to the Championship.

With the season over, bar the FA Cup final, UEFA Europa League final and the UEFA Champions League final to look forward to, before the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals this summer, Shoot! is taking a quick look back on the 2017-18 Premier League campaign to select our Top 5 Players of the Season.

Brighton’s Pascal Gross scored seven goals and assisted eight further strikes in his debut Premier League campaign.

Before we dive straight in, the selection process was insanely tough after a thoroughly entertaining top-flight term, so we would like to give honourable mentions and praise to the likes of Raheem Sterling, Roberto Firmino, Christian Eriksen, Leroy Sane, David Silva, Heung-min Son, Ederson, Riyad Mahrez, James Tarkowski, Fernandinho and Pascal Gross for their impressive displays this season

Right, here we go, without further ado, here are Shoot!‘s Top 5 Players of the 2017-18 Premier League season…

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

The signing of the season, the best player of the campaign, Liverpool’s Player of the Year, Golden Boot winner, Premier League Player of the Season, FWA Footballer of the Year, PFA Players’ Player of the Year… the list goes on, Mohamed Salah has been a sensation!

The 25-year-old has scored 44 goals and provided 16 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions for The Reds this season, with the Egyptian preparing for next weekend’s UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Good luck, Mo!

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

The star player that spearheaded champions Manchester City’s record-breaking season.

Kevin De Bruyne, 26, found the back of the net 12 times and assisted 21 further strikes in 52 games overall for Pep Guardiola’s side, and finished the season with the most Premier League assists (16).

David De Gea (Manchester United)

Despite being miles away from getting his hands on the Premier League title, David De Gea’s influence and importance at Old Trafford feels irreplaceable after arguably his best season at Manchester United.

The 27-year-old Spaniard finished the campaign with the most Premier League clean sheets (18), two ahead of City’s Ederson, and recorded an impressive 22 shut outs in all competitions for The Red Devils this term.

De Gea will be hoping to finish his season with a piece of silverware as United prepare to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final this Saturday.

Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

Despite being overshadowed by Liverpool superstar Salah, Tottenham’s Harry Kane has still been in prolific form this season, and all England fans are hoping the striker can continue his goalscoring form at this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.

The 24-year-old scored 41 goals in just 48 games overall for Spurs this term, who finished third behind Manchester City and Manchester United, securing Champions League football upon their return to White Hart Lane next term.

Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

And finally, another league champion enters our Top 5 Players of the Season list, with Manchester City forward Leroy Sane rejoicing in a brilliant campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

The 22-year-old winger found the back of the net 14 goals and provided 19 assists in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, and was named PFA Young Player of the Year for his terrific efforts.
