Top 5: Premier League players of the weekend including Everton, Leicester City and Southampton stars

The Premier League hosted all 20 teams this weekend, with some brilliant matches and individual performances on display.

Tottenham Hotspur finished top on a weekend in which many of the league’s big teams failed to win. Spurs themselves were held to a draw away at Crystal Palace and Liverpool fell to the same 1-1 scoreline away at Fulham.

The Manchester derby failed to live up to its hype, producing a drab 0-0 draw, but there were some big performances from Leicester City and Southampton who comprehensively beat Brighton & Hove Albion and Sheffield United respectively.

West Ham United secured a brilliant three points at Elland Road on Friday night, whilst Burnley and Everton secure brilliant 1-0 wins against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Aston Villa beat Midlands rivals Aston Villa in dramatic fashion on Saturday, whilst Newcastle United overcame West Bromwich Albion to gain all three points also.

Across the ten games, a bunch of individuals put in impressive displays for their teams.

But who were the standout stars?

Here we select our top-5 Premier League players from the weekend’s fixtures…

5. Nick Pope (Burnley)

Burnley went into their match away to Arsenal in the relegation zone, with Fulham having just gained a decent point against Premier League champions Liverpool. Despite the Gunners being blunt in attack in recent weeks, goalkeeper Nick Pope would have known he would be in for a busy night. Six saves and a clean sheet helped give the North West side a historic victory in London.

4. Michael Keane (Everton)

With Chelsea’s stellar attack on show, Keane and his fellow Everton defenders needed to be on top of their game if they were to gain a result at Goodison Park on Saturday, They were everything and more, restricting the Blues to just three shots on target. Keane was excellent all evening, rarely looking unsettled big players such as Olivier Giroud, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

3. Che Adams (Southampton)

With the injury sustained to star striker Danny Ings earlier in the season, Che Adams has had to step up to the plate in the striking positions for Southampton. Now Ings is back, Adams has retained his place given his solid performances. Another goal this afternoon against bottom of the table Sheffield United, put the Saints on their way to a very impressive fourth position.

2. Angelo Ogbonna (WestHam United)

West Ham started the weekend of games with a brilliant win away at Elland Road on Friday night. Ogbonna defended very well all match and provided the winning goal, which given other results has put the Hammers up to 6th in the Premier League table. The Italian was a key performer in a brilliant away performance.

1. James Maddison (Leicester City)

Despite Leicester’s brilliant football and form this season, James Maddison has not hit the heights of last season and has found himself out the team at times this campaign. The England international certainly turned up tonight though, scoring a brilliant brace against the Seagulls. That result has put Leicester in 3rd position, just a single point off Liverpool and Tottenham.
