The opening of the transfer window has seen a number of teams looking to strengthen their squads, and whilst some clubs will want to balance their books or dispose of their under-performing players, others will be hoping to sign that star player who can help them achieve their overall objectives for the season.

Now, almost two full weeks into the January transfer window, rumours are starting to emerge about potential deals and some transfers are even being completed early.

Burnley were the first side to bring in a player this year after they acquired the signature of Joey Barton on a deal that lasts until the end of the season.

Many more transfers have been made since then with the most notable of which seeing Wilfried Ndidi sign for Leicester City, Gabriel Jesus completing his move to Manchester City and Rudy Gestede joining up with Aitor Karanka’s Middlesbrough.

Every window, there are players that switch between top-flight teams and in the most recent years, AFC Bournemouth re-signed Lewis Grabban from Norwich City, Jonjo Shelvey joined Swansea City from Newcastle United, N’Golo Kante switched Leicester for Chelsea, Ashley Williams departed Swansea for the blue half of Merseyside and Andros Townsend moved from Tottenham to Newcastle… and then again to Crystal Palace!

With more of these transfers likely to happen during January, here are five players that Shoot! think might be switching one Premier League club for another this transfer window…

Jeffrey Schlupp

Having been left out of Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations squad and only managing four league starts for Leicester City this season, Jeffrey Schlupp could be open to a move away from the King Power Stadium in an attempt to secure a more regular source of playing time.

The left-back played a vital part in his side’s title winning season last year, but has failed to force his way into the starting eleven this term.

Reportedly, the Premier League champions have already knocked back a bid of £9m from Crystal Palace, with Swansea City and West Brom also said to be interested in the defender.

The versatile Ghanaian would be a great addition to Sam Allardyce’s side, who are in real danger just above the relegation zone.

However, the former England boss will face major competition from Tony Pulis for Schlupp, who is also very keen on obtaining his signature and was said to have had two bids for the 24-year-old blocked by manager Claudio Ranieri last summer.

Robert Snodgrass

Hull City will be extremely hopeful that in-demand winger Robert Snodgrass will stay at the club beyond the January transfer window.

However, with the position in which the club finds itself and the fact that they will almost undoubtedly be facing relegation to the Championship come the end of the season, new manager Marco Silva will do well to fend off interest from both Middlesbrough and West Ham United.

The Hammers have already submitted two formal bids for the Scottish international and of which, the first for £3m was rejected.

There has been no news on Slaven Bilic’s latest bid, but The Tigers have said that only a special offer will take him away from the KCOM Stadium.

The 29-year-old has been the shining light in Hull’s abysmal season so far and has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 23 appearances.

The only hope Hull have of Premier League survival is by keeping the winger at the club and hoping that his fine form continues.

Mamadou Sakho

Mamadou Sakho has accepted that he has no future at Anfield and will almost certainly be playing for a new club come the end of January.

The defender has not played for the first-team since April because of off-field issues, which, in short, consisted of being sent home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour by manager Jurgen Klopp and receiving a 30-day suspension by UEFA after testing positive for a prohibited substance following a Europa League game.

Whilst UEFA failed to impose a further ban, the 26-year-old never managed to get back into the starting eleven.

The Reds have set a £20m price tag for the central defender, who has made 56 league appearances in his three years at the club, and Southampton and Swansea City are both keen to bring Sakho into their squads.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player would be a great defensive addition to either team, but it seems more likely that he will choose St. Mary’s as his next destination in order to link up with fellow Frenchman Claude Puel.

Jose Fonte

Southampton could be in real defensive trouble after this transfer window with both Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk supposedly subject to moves away from the club.

Both will impact the club massively, but losing their captain could be detrimental to their season and with the 33-year-old now handing in a transfer request, the defender could soon be on his way out of St. Mary’s.

He was left out of The Saints side against Norwich City in the FA Cup at the weekend, but boss Puel has refused to rule out selecting the Portuguese international in the near future.

Having established himself as one of the Premier League’s top centre-backs, Fonte is now beginning to explore his options with 18 months left on his current deal, with Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham United all monitoring his situation closely.

The Southampton defender is well known for his consistency and leadership on the pitch and after winning Euro 2016 over the summer with Portugal – as well as making almost 300 appearances with The Saints – the former Benfica player might be ready for his next top-flight chapter.

Michail Antonio

Since switching Nottingham Forest for Upton Park in a £7m move 18 months ago, Antonio has kept on improving and was recognised with his first England call-up last year.

The 26-year-old has scored 17 times in 59 appearances for The Hammers and has been one of their standout players since he arrived.

It is therefore no surprise that he has been attracting interest from some of the top teams in the division and he could definitely be tempted to switch allegiance if the right offer comes in.

Chelsea are thought to be plotting a shock move for the English forward, and whilst they are yet to submit an official offer, manager Antonio Conte is said to be keen to bring the West Ham star to Stamford Bridge.

Fellow boss Slaven Bilic is determined to keep hold of the winger and given that he as committed his future to the club until 2020, it will take a substantial offer to make the people at the London Stadium really stand up and listen.
