Top 5: Tallest players in the Premier League at the moment

We’re biased but we think the Premier League is head and shoulders above other leagues across the world.

Talking of ‘head and shoulders above’, there’s been plenty of man mountains that have played in the Premier League since it kicked off in 1992.

Tallest of the lot is former Manchester City, Sunderland and Watford goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon.

The Romanian, who now plays for Turkish club Denizlispor, measures in at 2.03m (6ft 8in).

But who are the biggest players currently in the Premier League? Here we reveal the top 5.

You won’t be surprised to see that it’s dominated by goalkeepers…

5. Nick Pope – 197cm

Burnley stopper Nick Pope measures in at number 5 at 197cm. Since signing for the Clarets from Charlton in 2016, the 28-year-old has developed into one of the country’s best goalkeepers. His 15 clean sheets were just two shy of Golden Glove winner Ederson’s in 2019/20. There are plenty of strong calls for him to become England’s number 1 .

4. Wayne Hennessy – £198cm

Although you may not have seen him on the pitch in the Premier League this term, Wayne Hennessy is still part of the Crystal Palace squad and is therefore the fourth tallest in the top-flight. Still number 1 for his country, the Welshman is currently competing with Vicente Guaita and Jack Butland for a place in the Palace side.

3. Jannik Vestergaard – 199cm

The third tallest and second tallest outfield player is Southampton’s big central defender Jannik Vestergaard. The Dane, who joined Saints in the summer of 2018 from Borussia Monchengladbach, has helped his side make a good start to the 2020/21 season in which he has already scored twice (yes – they were both headers).

2. Matt Macey – 201cm

Officially the title of the tallest Premier League goalkeeper falls to Arsenal’s Matt Macey.  The 25-year-old, who measures in at 201cm, is currently Mikel Arteta’s third-choice stopper. Although the 25-year-old has only ever made two senior appearances he does have a 2020 FA Cup winner’s medal as he was in the squad which defeated Chelsea at Wembley in August.

1. Dan Burn – 201cm

The tallest current player in the Premier League, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Dan Burn is a giant of a man. The 28-year-old measures in also at 201cm but just a nail’s width taller than Macey. As well as being a huge presence, Burn is a regular in Graham Potter’s team on the left side of defence. There’s no surprise that opposing wingers don’t win many headers.
