Top 5: Who are the highest paid players in the Premier League?

We all like to talk about footballer’s wages and the huge amount of money that is now in the English Premier League.

Year after year, salaries across the 20 clubs seem to rise with the average top-flight player now taking home around £240,000 each month.

But which superstars are currently the biggest earners in the Premier League?

Here – using data from Spotrac – we reveal the top 5…

5. Paul Pogba – £15.08m

A player who always seems to be in the press, Paul Pogba is said to be the fifth highest earner in the Premier League with a salary of over £15million per-year. The Frenchman has been in and out of the Manchester United team this term and is in the final year of his contract. It is looking unlikely he will be handed a new one – especially on these terms – but, with the talent the midfielder possesses, we also wouldn’t be surprised to see him secure a bigger move.

4. Raheem Sterling – £15.6m

Man City star Raheem Sterling is not just the fourth highest earner, but also the highest earning Englishman in the Premier League. Since Moving to the Etihad in 2015, the forward has gone from strength to strength, especially under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. Now putting in top-class performance on a consistent basis, the England international’s current deal was signed back in 2018.

3. Kevin De Bruyne – £16.68m

Sitting just ahead of Sterling is his Man City teammate, Kevin De Bruyne. The brilliant Belgian has lit up the Premier League at the second attempt since signing from Wolfsburg in 2015. A midfielder who has almost everything in his locker, KDB’s current contract at the Etihad runs until 2023. We’re thinking that – despite being 32 at that time – City will be extremely keen to extend that.

2. David De Gea – £19.5m

As well as being the highest-paid Manchester United player, David De Gea is also the highest-paid goalkeeper in the Premier League. The Spaniard has had countless impressive seasons since his move from Atletico Madrid in 2011. Now, nearly a decade on, the 30-year-old is still the club’s first-choice stopper and has looked steadier this term after a dip in form. De Gea penned his current deal in 2019 and it ends in 2023.

1. Gareth Bale – £31.2m

There’s a clear leader when it comes to the biggest-earner in the Premier League but there’s a bit more to the story behind the number. Way out in front at an eye-watering £31.2m is Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale. However, as part of the season-long loan deal agreement with Real Madrid, it’s reported that Spurs are contributing 50% of the salary and the Spaniards the other half. This means that the North London side are paying the Welshman around £15.6m annually, which would still put him joint with Raheem Sterling.
