Tottenham Hotspur are back in action on Sunday when they host Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites have enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign under new manager Thomas Frank, who has overseen four wins from their seven league matches so far, as well as a win and a draw from their two Champions League games.

Frank will hope to see his side pick up all three points against the Villans on Sunday, but in the meantime it has emerged that the North London outfit are eyeing a January move for a new defender.

As per CaughtOffside, Spurs are contemplating a move for Lazio centre-back Mario Gila when the transfer window reopens in January.

The report claims that the London side are keen to bolster Frank’s defence in the new year, and Lazio star Gila has been identified as an ideal candidate to do so.

Gila, 25, joined Lazio from Real Madrid Castilla in 2022 and has since made 90 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The defender has started all six of Lazio’s league matches so far this term, playing an important role for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

He has impressed for the Rome giants, but the report suggests that Spurs will face fierce competition in the race to sign the defender as several other clubs are also showing interest in the player.

Fellow Premier League sides Brighton and Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, and Everton are all also keeping tabs on the Spaniard, who is yet to be capped by his country at senior level.

Gila is under contract in the Italian capital until the end of the 2026/27 season, and the report suggests that the Serie A side will therefore only entertain offers in the region of £40-45 million.
