Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing World Cup, European Championship and multiple Champions League winner

It’s been a relatively good season for Tottenham Hotspur in what is Jose Mourinho’s first full campaign in charge.

Spurs were top of the league a few weeks back but slipped out of the top-four after collecting just one point from their last three matches.

Despite that, the Portuguese boss and the club’s supporters will be relatively content with where they are, especially with a League Cup semi-final and Europa League last-32 tie also to come.

It’s no surprise that one of the reasons for Tottenham’s success so far in 2020/21 is the form of their backline.

Mourinho took over Spurs in November 2019.

Mourinho’s side have the third best defensive record in the top-flight having conceded just 15 times in as many games.

The likes of Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez have all performed when called upon at centre-back.

However, according to the Evening Standard, that foursome could potentially have competition from one of the most successful players in world football over the past two decades.

Mourinho reportedly has an eye on potentially signing Real Madrid and Spain captain Sergio Ramos.

Ramos has played 665 times for Madrid and a record 178 times for Spain.

The 34-year-old has won the World Cup and European Championship for his country, plus four Champions League trophies with Los Blancos.

But with Ramos’ current contract at the Bernabeu expiring next summer, he could be set to end his 16-year association with the La Liga champions.

It’s claimed that Mourinho, who worked with the player for three years when he was at Madrid, would like to recruit the experienced centre-back.

However, with reported interest also coming from big-spending PSG, it remains to be seen if Spurs could seriously compete for the Spaniard’s signature if he opts for a new challenge.
