Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly matched Everton’s £30m offer for France international star Moussa Sissoko, according to Sky Sports (22:07).

The Premier League side, who currently sit seventh in the English top-flight standings following their 1-1 draw against Liverpool at the weekend, are looking to hijack the Toffees’ deal for the Newcastle United midfielder in the dying embers of the summer transfer window on deadline day.

The 27-year-old, who starred for his country during this summer’s European Championships in his homeland as France lost out to Portugal in the final, scored one goal and provided eight assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies last season as they suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Sissoko has made it clear that his future lies away from St James’ Park following the club’s demotion to the second-tier of English football.

The Frenchman was set to become Everton’s new club-record signing regarding his reported £30m price tag, a fee that would surpass the previous milestone set by striker Romelu Lukaku back in July 2014 following his arrival from Chelsea.

However Spurs have frantically submitted a similar bid of £30m to Newcastle for the France midfielder, leaving the player’s future in limbo with just minutes remaining of the summer transfer window, with deadline day set to close at 11:00pm.
