Tottenham must let go of these two players in January

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be content with their start to the Premier League campaign, however, poor showings in the Champions League and EFL Cup will no doubt have disappointed them.

Spurs have only lost twice in the league this season, and currently lie in 5th place, within striking distance of the top four and rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham have a lot to play for during the second half of the season. They’ll be desperate to grab one of those top four places and qualify for the Champions League come May, so that they can put right what happened this campaign in the next one.

They’ll also be looking to make some headway in the Europa League where they are amongst the favourites to win the competition.

To help them with these goals the recruitment team will no doubt be working overtime to identify players who can add extra quality to the side in January.

But they’ll need to make some room in their squad for potential new additions. With that said here’s TWO players we here at Shoot! reckon Tottenham should let go this January…

Tom Carroll

Tom Carroll has only made one Premier League appearance this term for Tottenham. It’s obvious Pochettino doesn’t think he has the quality to be an important player for the Lillywhites this term.

Carroll’s position in the squad from last season has effectively been taken by Harry Winks, who has put in a number of assured performances since he broke into the side. They are very similar players, deep-lying player makers with strong passing skills.

Tottenham should seriously consider getting rid of a player who is making no real meaningful contribution to their season, and getting in one who can.

Josh Onomah

This may be a little harsh on the youngster, but you have to understand that Tottenham really do have a quality squad, consisting mainly of internationals.

Has Onomah really shown that he would be able to mix it with these players any time in the next few seasons? We here at Shoot! think no. His attitude is unquestionable but he seems to lack that cutting edge in the final third.

A loan would make sense for both parties this January. Enabling the 19-year-old to gain further experience at the same time as granting Tottenham an extra squad space to give to someone who would likely contribute more this season.
