Chelsea comfortably breezed past League One outfit Peterborough United on Sunday. Their 4-1 win sends them through to the fourth round of the FA Cup where they face West London rivals Brentford.

A rotated Blues side progressed courtesy of a brace from Pedro before Michy Batshuayi and Willian completed the rout.

Antonio Conte’s side now turn their attentions back to the Premier League. They face an away trip to current title holders Leicester City on Saturday. A win for the Blues will see them maintain at least a five point gap at the top of the league table.

After losing their first league game in 14 last Wednesday, Conte’s men will be looking to return to winning ways against the Foxes.

Chelsea have conceded in their last three matches in all competitions so they may look to purchase another defender or two in this month’s transfer window.

Shoot! looks at two defenders Chelsea should sign in this month’s transfer window.

Ricardo Pereira

The Nice full back has had a superb season so far in Ligue 1. The Portuguese defender Pereira is currently on a two-year loan deal from Porto which ends at the end of the season.

The defender has been in scintillating form this season thus far and (according to whoscored.com) Pereira has the highest average match rating of any player in the league in this campaign.

The 23-year-old has featured 21 times for the French side in all competitions and has kept eight clean sheets along the way.

Pereira is a very versatile player. He naturally plays at right back; but he is also highly capable of playing at right midfield or left back.

He is a fast, attacking minded full back meaning that he would very much suit the right wing-back role.

Conte does not have a natural back-up option at right wing back as Branislav Ivanovic has appeared to not get much game time in this role.

Pereira would not only be a good back up option, but he is certainly capable of challenging Victor Moses for a starting place in the side.

Fernando Marcal

With Cesar Azpilicueta being commonly used as a centre back, they are limited on support for both Moses and Marcos Alonso.

Guingamp left back Fernando Marcal has been in form in the league this season. He has featured 18 times in all competitions for Las Costarmoricains this season, with five assists and five clean sheets to his name.

Marcal also possesses the fourth highest average match rating of any Ligue 1 player (according to whoscored.com), with only Pereira, Maxime Gonalons and Oscar Trejo bettering him in this campaign.

He would be a great signing for the Blues and superb competition for Marcos Alonso for the left wing back position.
