Two players set to be released by Manchester United and other players they could sell this summer, according to Manchester Evening News

A major problem at United since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, is managers failing and then leaving a squad behind that hasn’t been good enough.

Unfortunately for United fans this has happened with David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, leaving current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a rebuilding process.

Rebuilding obviously means bringing players in, which the club has done quite well in the last 12 months, but it also means letting players go.

Manchester Evening News have reported that Solskjaer is set to release both Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Demetri Mitchell in the summer, which raises the question of which other players could leave ahead of next season.

Chris Smalling

Many United fans believe Smalling is the club’s best defender in terms of defensive capabilities. But Solskjaer has always wanted better ball-playing centre halves. Having spent the season on loan with Serie A outfit AS Roma, Smalling could be sold this summer with Arsenal reportedly interested.

Phil Jones

Despite the bags of potential and promise it hasn’t really happened for Jones at United. He’s won some silverware during his time at United and during certain spells looked like a top player. But unfortunately for him, lack of form and injuries have resulted in the former Blackburn Rovers man falling far down the pecking order.

Alexis Sanchez

Considered to be one of the worst signings in Premier League history, Sanchez has endured a woeful time since joining United from Arsenal 14 months ago. His sky-high wages have not helped his cause, and Solskjaer could look to remove the Chilean’s wage bill from the club’s books.

Andreas Pereira

Pereira has been given plenty of chances in a United shirt, and especially this campaign where he was given the starting nod for most of the first half of the season. But with Bruno Fernandes coming in and Paul Pogba close to returning to full fitness, the Brazilian’s days at Old Trafford could be numbered.
