Two players who could make a Chelsea return in January

Chelsea are top of the Premier League at Christmas after a remarkable run of 11 straight Premier League victories.

Antonio Conte’s Blues were eight points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on September 24, but 11 wins, including triumphs over City, Manchester United, and Tottenham, have propelled the West London to the summit.

The Blues are six points clear of nearest rivals Liverpool going into the busy Christmas period, where they host Bournemouth and Stoke before the New Year in a bid to open up an even greater lead at the top of the division.

Conte’s side have been sensational ever since the Italian implemented a back three, and since then his team have conceded just twice in the league, with Christian Eriksen’s strike and a Gary Cahill own goal the only efforts that have found a way past Thibaut Courtois.

With a six point lead, many are already tipping Chelsea to go on and regain the Premier League title come May, but some still feel that more reinforcements are needed to keep them at the top.

Thus, here are TWO former Chelsea players who could return to Stamford Bridge in January…

Thorgan Hazard

Thorgan Hazard only left Chelsea last year to join German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, but he proved himself to the point that there is interest in bringing him back to Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old, brother of Blues star Eden, spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan there, and scored five and assisted ten to help the club to third place in the Bundesliga.

Hazard also excelled last season in his first permanent season in Germany, netting six and assisting a further six to help them finish fourth.

The Belgian international has already beaten that tally this time around, scoring eight times for Monchengladbach, and interest has arisen, as there is reportedly a buy-back clause that Chelsea inserted into his contract.

The Blues could strike a deal for as little as £13 million, yet that expires on December 31 this year, so if Chelsea want their man, they need to get a deal done quickly.

Frank Lampard

Chelsea boss Conte stated yesterday that Blues legend Frank Lampard wants to keep playing football in the next few years.

The former England captain saw his contract at MLS side New York City FC end last month, and has since made no decision on what he’s doing next.

However, could a move back to Chelsea, perhaps as a player-coach, be on the cards?

Lampard would bring more experience to the Blues side, having 648 times for the club and netting 211 goals, and remember that he was playing for Manchester City just last year, so clearly still has enough quality in the tank to make a difference at this level.

It’s a long shot, but you’d have to expect to see Lampard back at Stamford Bridge in some capacity, so as a first team player is not out of the question.
