Two players who could make a Manchester United return in January

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are beginning to look up the Premier League table once again after a decent run of results before Christmas.

The Red Devils have won their last three league games, with victories over Tottenham, Crystal Palace, and West Brom following a frustrating run of just one win in their preceding eight matches.

Their fine run means that they are now just three points behind Spurs in fifth, who in turn are only a point behind Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, who have suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats.

United have won eight of their opening 17 league games, and have two home games against Sunderland and Middlesbrough before the New Year in a bid to reel in those sides in the top four.

There has certainly been an improvement in the last month or so at United, even if the results didn’t always show it, but now they beginning to get the results their performances merit.

However, some still feel that they are lacking in certain areas to challenge for the title, so here are TWO former United players who Mourinho could sign in January…

Danny Drinkwater

England international Danny Drinkwater left Manchester United in 2012 to sign for Leicester, and his career has flourished since.

The 26-year-old helped the Foxes return to the Premier League in 2014, played a part in keeping them up the season after, and then helped them win the Premier League title last season.

Drinkwater has also earned three England caps, all three this year, and his fine form in the middle of Claudio Ranieri’s midfield has attracted interest from ex-employers United.

They were linked with him back in September, at a time where Mourinho was struggling to know his best midfield combination, but interest has resurfaced in recent days, especially with it likely that Morgan Schneiderlin will leave Old Trafford next month.

Javier Hernandez

Since leaving Manchester United last year, striker Javier Hernandez has gone from strength to strength.

The Mexican international was always seen as an impact player at Old Trafford, and regularly made a big impact in his first few seasons, but he made the move to German side Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 in a bid to resurrect his career.

And what a job he has done.

Hernandez netted 26 times in just 40 games for the club last season to help them to a third place finish in the Bundesliga, and the 28-year-old has added seven more this term.

United could do with more options upfront to help 35-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Hernandez has proved to be a handy goal-scorer in Germany.

Could a return be on the cards?
