Former Premier League striker Edin Dzeko was sent off for pulling down an opponent’s shorts during a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

The 30-year-old, who scored 72 goals for Manchester City between 2011 and 2016, was giving his marching orders following a bizarre twist in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s 1-1 draw away in Greece.

Leading 1-0 with just ten minutes remaining; the striker, who is now with Serie A outfit AS Roma, went down under a challenge from centre-half Kyriakos Papadopoulos down the left flank.

With the Greek using a fair amount of force and aggression in his attempted tackle, Dzeko reacted by yanking down the defender’s shorts after Papadopoulos made an attempt to wrestle the ball from the Bosnia captain.

And with Dzeko already on a yellow card, referee Jonas Eriksson soon sent off the former Man City ace, before also showing Papadopoulos a straight red.

Greece then went on to net an equaliser in injury time. Typical!
