Aston Villa face competition from Sheffield Wednesday for the signing of Jordan Rhodes.
According to a report in The Sun Wednesday have put in an £8m bid for the Middlesbrough striker with a further £4m in add-ons.
Villa wanted Rhodes on loan but when that was refused they made a bid of £6m up front which would rise to £10m if they win promotion to the top flight.
Boro are believed to be looking for £12m up front for the former Blackburn Rovers striker but that looks unlikely to arrive this month.
Rhodes was an £11m signing exactly a year ago but has barely had a look in at Aitor Karaka’s side since they gained promotion to the top division.
Steve Bruce was bidding for Rhodes a year ago when he was managing Hull City and could be in line for a repeat if Villa decide not to at least match the offer from Sheffield Wednesday.
Jordan’s dad Andy, is the goalkeeping coach at Wednesday.
