Watford’s star of the international break

Craig Cathcart (Northern Ireland)

Watford defender Craig Cathcart was at the heart of Northern Ireland’s stern defence as the Green and White Army qualified for their first-ever UEFA European Championships and their first taste of major tournament football in 30 years at the weekend. Michael O’Neill’s side defeated Euro 2004 champions Greece 3-1 inside a bouncing Windsor Park on Thursday night thanks to goals from Steven Davis (2) and Josh Magennis, before Cathcart himself netted Northern Ireland’s equaliser during their 1-1 encounter in Finland to top Group F on Sunday evening. The only thing missing from Cathcart’s perfect weekend was a clean sheet, but he won’t mind too much after helping his country book their place at Euro 2016 next summer in France.
