Wenger should give these 3 Arsenal players a chance against Manchester City

Arsenal host Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday (4pm kick-off) in serious need of all three points in their quest for a top four finish.

Arsene Wenger’s men have lost four of their last five Premier League matches, the latest a 3-1 defeat at West Brom two weeks ago, which has seen them slip to sixth in the table, and six points adrift of fourth place Liverpool ahead of the weekend.

It also means that they are seven points behind Pep Guardiola’s City side, who have been on a fine run since the turn of the year, losing just one of their nine league matches and winning four of their last six.

It was the Citizens who won the reverse fixture back in December, with goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling cancelling out Theo Walcott’s opener for Wenger’s men, and a repeat of that scoreline at the Emirates on Sunday would put a severe dent in Arsenal’s chances of recording a 21st successive top four finish.

Clearly, the Gunners know that anything less than victory will do on Sunday, yet Wenger may need to make a few changes to his side ahead of City’s visit.

Thus, here are THREE Arsenal players who deserve a chance against City on Sunday…

Mohamed Elneny

Wenger may look to add more steel to the Arsenal midfield against City, which could mean a recall for Mohamed Elneny.

The Egyptian international hasn’t featured for the Gunners since their 2-0 win over Sutton United in the FA Cup in February, mainly due to injury, but also due to the solid efforts of Granit Xhaka and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the middle.

However, neither man performed well against West Brom last time out, and against a City side with pace and power in the middle, Elneny could be the man to help in the Gunners’ attempt to control the midfield.

Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi lost his place in the starting line-up against West Brom, but Aaron Ramsey didn’t do enough to suggest that he’s going to become a regular on the substitute’s bench.

20-year-old Iwobi has scored three goals and laid on three assists in 23 Premier League appearances this term which, albeit isn’t hugely prolific, does suggest that he carries a threat when on the pitch.

And against a City side which has struggled defensively this term, especially against pace, he could be the key to unlocking that backline, and thus firing Arsenal to a much-needed victory.

Olivier Giroud

Danny Welbeck did solidly when leading the line against the Baggies last week, but it’s clear that he is still finding his way back to full match fitness.

Thus, Wenger may opt with striker Olivier Giroud against City.

The France international netted twice in his country’s 3-1 win over Luxembourg last week, and with eight Premier League goals this season in just 19 appearances, only seven of which have been starts, he’s clearly playing well and showing nous in front of goal.

As aforementioned, City haven’t been great defensively this term, so having the variety of Giroud’s aerial strength alongside the trickery of Sanchez and pace of Walcott may be too much for Guardiola’s men to handle.
