Wenger should give these 3 Arsenal players a chance against PSG

Arsenal host Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night in a match which is likely to determine who tops Group A.

The Gunners currently sit at the summit having won three and drawn the other of their Champions League matches, and they’ll look to use home advantage in their bid to secure top spot.

Arsene Wenger’s side are on a 17-match unbeaten run in all competitions, but left it late to preserve that unbeaten streak against Manchester United on Saturday, with Olivier Giroud’s 89th minute header securing the Gunners a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Nonetheless, Arsenal will go into Wednesday’s encounter at the Emirates full of confidence after an excellent run, but they’ll need to improve upon Saturday’s laboured display against United when they host the French champions.

Unai Emery’s side have picked up after a slow start to their Ligue 1 campaign, and have now won seven of their last nine league games.

They’ll provide a tough test for Wenger’s side on Wednesday, and the Arsenal boss may have to use his squad as there are a few concerns over the availability of some first team players.

Thus, here are THREE players who deserve a chance on Wednesday…

Kieran Gibbs

Left-back Kieran Gibbs is playing for his Arsenal future having been out of favour in the early stages of this season.

The England international lost out to the consistent Nacho Monreal, but has played a bit more over the last month or so, and did start the 3-2 win over Ludogorets in their last Champions League match.

However, Monreal’s weaknesses were exposed against Swansea a few weeks ago, and he struggled against United at the weekend.

That performance should concern Wenger ahead of the PSG game, and it may be enough to see Gibbs given a chance on Wednesday.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has more assists in the last few weeks than he managed in the entirety of last season’s Premier League campaign.

His great work down the right and deep cross set up Olivier Giroud’s equaliser against United at the weekend, and his fine ball into the box was met by Alexis Sanchez in the 4-1 win over Sunderland three weeks ago.

With question marks surrounding the fitness of Sanchez and Theo Walcott, alongside the below par display of Aaron Ramsey on Saturday, Oxlade-Chamberlain should get the nod against PSG on Wednesday.

Olivier Giroud

Four goals in his last four Arsenal appearances, Olivier Giroud could benefit from the uncertainty surrounding Sanchez’s fitness ahead of the PSG match.

The French international came off the bench to net the equaliser at Old Trafford on Saturday, having made an impact off the bench against Sunderland at the end of last month, where his presence upfront gave Arsenal another option, and he netted two goals as a result.

Giroud has made nine appearances this season for the Gunners, but only one of these has been from the start. He deserves to double that tally on Wednesday.
