West Brom are preparing to make an improved offer for Jardel.

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail the Baggies have already had an offer for the Benfica defender turned down.

Jardel has had a season disrupted by injury but with Victor Lindelof expected to join Manchester United Benfica would rather that the 31-year-old stayed on in Lisbon.

Tony Pulis has been showing a lot of interest in Portuguese football this season and is looking to strengthen his defensive options.

With Gareth McAuley celebrating his 38th birthday before Christmas and Jonny Evans attracting attention Pulis is aware that his trusted partnership could look vulnerable.

At 31 years of age Jardel has a wealth of experience with Pulis confident of clinching a deal and getting the Brazilian to have an influence of West Brom’s season.
