Jaap Stam appears to have broken the unwritten rule for manager’s by commenting on how he’s delighted to be linked with the job at West Ham United, which despite being an obvious step up is still quite a shocking thing to say when you consider Slaven Bilic is fighting for his future at the London Stadium and Stam has a job to do trying to get his side promoted from the Championship.
Speaking of the West Ham link Stam said:
“It is nice to be recognised.
“I do not know if it is true – everyone wants recognition.”
It’s not clear how likely Stam is to take over from Bilic but the rumours are certainly gathering momentum as West Ham’s season falters and the club’s owners have even been the subject of criticism on social media, something which may encourage them to act sooner rather than later.
Here’s how West Ham fans responded on Twitter to the recent comments by former Manchester United defender, Stam on his proposed move to take over the Hammers:
@WHUFC_News. We got to the FA cup final under the last manager we had from Reading
