West Ham forward Andre Ayew could make a return to French outfit Marseille this summer, according to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness).
The Ghana international endured a tricky first season at the London Stadium following his £20.5 million move from Swansea City last summer, bagging just six goals in 27 appearances for Slaven Bilic’s men to help them to 11th in the Premier League table.
The 27-year-old’s debut for the Hammers back in August sort of set the tone for his time at the club, given that he was injured after just 35 minutes, and it’s a stint in East London which may well be coming to an end this summer.
And that’s because reports in France suggest that Ayew may well return to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille this summer following recent quotes from his father, stating ‘it’s possible Andre returns to Marseille one day’ and that ‘he loves the shirt’.
The £15 million-rated forward (as per Transfermarkt) began his professional career at the club back in 2007 and went on to make over 200 appearances for the French giants before moving to Swansea in 2015.
And this recent news may concern West Ham fans who have yet to really see the best of Ayew at the club, but he did finish the regular campaign with three goals and two assists in his final ten games, including the winner at Burnley on Sunday, to suggest that he’s building his way back into form after a tough campaign.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen if Ayew does indeed make the move back to Marseille, but his previous links and overall love for the club certainly makes it a possibility this summer.
