West Ham must snap up these 3 bargain buys in the January sales

With the January transfer window fast approaching West Ham will be searching the market for players who can add to their options for the second half of the season.

The season has started poorly for Slaven Bilic’s side; a disastrous run of results means the East-Londoners find themselves in 17th place in the Premier League, despite an impressive draw at Anfield last time out. Romanian outsiders Astra Giurgiu also dumped the Hammers out of the Europe during qualification for the Europa League. Having spent the whole summer getting excited about their European adventure, it was over before it began.

However, the men from the London Stadium have it all to play for during the second half of the campaign. They’ll be desperate to climb the Premier League table, to ensure their safety and earn as much as possible from the new TV deal (weighting of money is handed out in accordance with final league position).

The Hammers will also have their eye on an FA Cup run, having not won a major trophy since 1981. To help them with these goals the recruitment team will no doubt be working overtime to identify players who can add that extra bit of quality to the side in January.

It’s always worth keeping an eye out for bargain buys during the window, as the money saved in these deals can be spent on other targets. With that said here’s THREE bargain buys West Ham should be looking to snap up this January.

Morgan Schneiderlin

Morgan Schneiderlin is badly out of favour at Old Trafford, with new manager Jose Mourinho almost appearing to completely disregard the Frenchman, who has only made two appearances in the league so far this campaign. As a result, it is likely the 27-year-old will be available for a cut-price fee this January.

West Ham could do with Schneiderlin’s tenacity in the middle of the park; they are failing to provide their defence with adequate protection and are struggling to control games at the moment. The tackles and interceptions of an in-form Schneiderlin could make all the difference to a West Ham side looking to climb away from the relegation places during the second half of the season.

Daniele de Rossi

De Rossi has been putting in impressive performances in the heart of the Roma midfield for well over a decade now. The Italian is a real leader of men, someone who you want alongside you in testing circumstances. West Ham are crying out for a player of this ilk right now.

As we touched on with Schneiderlin, De Rossi will provide the protection West Ham so desperately need for a defence that has shipped 31 goals in 15 Premier League matches so far this term. Better still, the Italian will likely be available for a cheap fee this window as his contract is due to expire this coming summer.

Saido Berahino

The enigma that is Saido Berahino could finally be about to realise his full potential. His contract is up this summer meaning he could be available for a cut-price fee this January. The 23-year-old doesn’t seem interested in signing a new deal, following the tricky spell he has had at the club since he tried to push through a move to Tottenham back in the summer of 2015.

Berahino has undoubted talent, having scored plenty for West Brom and England u21’s before the transfer-bust up. West Ham could use someone with the goal scoring prowess of the 44-year-old as their strikers have really struggled in front of goal so far this campaign.
