West Ham simply must sign a striker in January – and here’s why

West Ham have struggled so far this season, and are currently languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.

Slaven Bilic’s men have fallen well short of expectations so far this campaign, in addition to their Premier League woes they crashed out of the Europa League in embarrassing fashion during qualifying. This is all the more surprising as The Irons are coming off the back of a superb first season under Bilic, in which they claimed some famous wins on their way to a 7th placed finish.

The same can’t be said this season, despite the continued brilliance of Dimitri Payet, who still ranks amongst Europe’s top chance creators.

So far this season they’ve really been struggling to score, at the same time as leaking goals like a sieve, not a good combination.

The Hammers need goals to drive themselves up the Premier League and so with that in mind here’s THREE reasons West Ham must sign a striker this January.

Zaza hasn’t settled well

Simeone Zaza hasn’t settled well in England, having failed to score in any of his 10 appearances for West Ham. The Italian has looked lack-luster so far and, in truth, hasn’t really looked like scoring.

Zaza’s poor start has resulted in the hammers looking blunt in attack, the Italian has failed to capitalise on the opportunities he’s had this season. As a result Slaven Bilic’s side have lacked goals and a shiny new striker could solve their problems and push them up the league during the second half of the campaign.

SPOILER ALERT: Andy Carroll is still plagued by injury

Andy Carroll has (again) been injured for much of the season so far, the Englishman looks no closer to putting his injury problems behind him. The 27-year-old his currently out with a knee problem and has made a grand total of one Premier League appearance so far this term.

With the big man not looking like being available for consistent Premier League minutes anytime soon the hammers should look to add an option in the striking department to ease their relegation concerns.

West Ham have scored a measly 14 goals in 13 Premier League games so far this season, it’s clear they need a striker to put the ball in the net.

Only one striker has scored in the league this season, Diafra Sakho, and it was his only goal of the campaign to date. It’s obvious that after 13 games this is a terrible return, the two David’s need to pull out all the stops and invest in a striker this January.
