Arsenal came from 3-0 down to snatch a point away at Bournemouth on a thrilling Tuesday evening of Premier League action.

Arsene Wenger’s men were outplayed by the Cherries for much of the first half, and went in 2-0 down at the break thanks to goals from Charlie Daniels and Callum Wilson.

Eddie Howe’s Cherries then grabbed a third 13 minutes into the second period thanks to Ryan Fraser, but Arsenal were not to be denied, and goals from Alexis Sanchez, Lucas Perez, and Olivier Giroud rescued an unlikely point for the Gunners, although it does mean that they missed the chance to leapfrog Manchester City into third place.

Nonetheless, it was battling effort from the Gunners in the second half, who played against ten men for the final eight minutes after Simon Francis was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Aaron Ramsey.

Bournemouth remain ninth but are now only a point ahead of Stoke, who rose to 11th courtesy of a 2-0 win over struggling Watford, thanks to goals from Ryan Shawcross and Peter Crouch.

The evening’s other game saw new Swansea boss Paul Clement watch his side beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park, with goals from Alfie Mawson and Angel Rangel cancelling out Wilfried Zaha’s excellent finish for the Eagles.

The win for the Swans puts them within a point of Sam Allardyce’s men, who suffered a fourth defeat in their last five matches.

In what was an exciting evening of Premier League action, here is What’s Hot and What’s Not from Tuesday’s top-flight games…

HOT – Olivier Giroud

Bournemouth caused Arsenal several problems in the first half at the Vitality Stadium last night, and deservedly led 3-0 with just 20 minutes to go.

However, Olivier Giroud, fresh from scoring a stunning volley against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day, inspired an excellent comeback from Wenger’s men.

His flicked header found its way to Alexis Sanchez to head home their first, and then the Frenchman bagged his second assist of the night when he played in Lucas Perez, who brilliantly fired past Artur Boruc.

Giroud’s second half efforts were then duly rewarded with his third goal in as many games, as the striker rose highest to glance Granit Xhaka’s cross into the back of the net.

Three league starts, three goals for Giroud – it’s been a great Christmas and New Year for the 30-year-old.

NOT – Hector Bellerin

Arsenal were completely dominated by Bournemouth for an hour last night, and Hector Bellerin had arguably his worst game in a Gunners shirt.

The Spanish international left Charlie Daniels in acres of room down the Cherries’ left, and didn’t recover well enough to prevent the Englishman giving the hosts an early lead.

Even when going forward, Bellerin looked lacklustre and struggled to make a meaningful difference down the right, before he was too easily barged off the ball by Ryan Fraser 13 minutes into the second half en route to the youngster giving Bournemouth a 3-0 lead.

Bellerin has been widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League over recent years, but yesterday was as bad a performance as you’ll see, and one Arsenal fans will hope is nothing more than a blip.

HOT – Paul Clement

What an impact new Swansea manager Paul Clement has had!

The former Derby boss took over at the Liberty Stadium yesterday afternoon and was in the stands to watch his side beat struggling Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park, their first away victory since the opening day of the season.

Alan Curtis picked the team and was the one giving out the orders from the touchline in the first half, before Clement moved into the technical area second half to help his new side take the three points.

Swansea needed to get out of a rut, and Clement has already made the landscape brighter by getting a victory which moves them to within a point of safety.

NOT – Watford

It would have been easy to put Crystal Palace in here, given their woeful run of form, but Watford fans must be alarmed at how quickly their side are falling down the Premier League table.

A 2-0 defeat at Stoke on Tuesday night means that Walter Mazzarri’s men have lost four of their last five league matches, and haven’t won since their 3-2 victory over Everton on December 10.

It means that the Hornets have fallen from seventh in the table after beating the Toffees to 14th following last night’s defeat, just seven points above the bottom three.

Key games against Middlesbrough and Bournemouth follow after their FA Cup third round clash against Burton on Saturday, and they need to get something from those two games if they are to avoid being sucked into a relegation battle.
