With Manchester City and Liverpool surpassing the 90-point mark in the Premier League, Shoot looks back at the amazing Chelsea 2004-05 side who reached 95 points.

Chelsea claimed their second title in a row that season with their then, record breaking 95 points. Jose Mourinho was at the helm and the Blues were simply too good for all their competition, losing just one game all season.

Here’s a look at the 11 players who made up that brilliant team and what happened to them after they moved on from Stamford Bridge.

Goalkeeper: Petr Cech

Like many in this list, a Chelsea legend. Cech only joined Chelsea at the start of that campaign and found himself in the starting 11 immediately, following the pre-season injury to Carlo Cudicini.

The Czech Republic international set a Premier League record (now held by Edwin Van Der Sar) of not conceding a goal for 1025 minutes of Premier League football.

Cech left Chelsea for London-rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2015 and recently announced he will retire from football at the end of this season. Although not confirmed, there are strong rumours he could return to Stamford Bridge in a Director capacity.

Right-back: Paulo Ferreira

Paulo Ferreira was another representative of Mourinho’s Porto team before joining his manager at Chelsea in 2004. The full back made 40 appearances in the 2004-05 season, keeping Glen Johnson out the side for large parts of the season.

2013 was the year Ferreira hung up his boots, staying at Chelsea for nine years and making 141 appearances for the club. Since then the former Portugal international has carried out some ambassadorial work at Chelsea and is gaining his coaching badges.

Centre-back: John Terry

Often referred to as ‘Mr Chelsea’ John Terry captained Chelsea’s 2004-05 league-winning team, forming a formidable partnership with Ricardo Carvalho.

After coming through the youth ranks at Chelsea, Terry left the club after 19 years as a professional. The defender joined Aston Villa where he captained the side which lost in the 2018 Championship play-off final. Terry announced his retirement in October 2018 and is now assistant head coach at Villa.

Centre-back: Ricardo Carvalho

The other half of the centre back partnership, Portugal international Ricardo Carvalho was one of Jose Mourinho’s most trusted servants, having played under him at Porto.

Carvalho moved on from Chelsea after six seasons, joining Real Madrid in 2010 before seeing out his playing days at Monaco and a very brief stint at Chinese outfit Shanghai SIPG.

Left-back: William Gallas

A player sometimes under-rated in this Chelsea team is William Gallas. The Frenchman made 46 appearances in that campaign mainly at full-back.

The former England man retired from football at the back-end of 2018 and now carries out a coaching role at Stamford Bridge.

Right forward: Arjen Robben

The Dutchman is the only outfield player in our list who is still playing professional football. At 35, Robben still appears regularly for Bayern Munich.

Striker: Didier Drogba

Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is a legend amongst Chelsea fans, following his Champions League winning exploits in 2012. The 2004-05 campaign was Drogba’s first for the club, where he scored 16 goals in all competitions.
