Where are they now? Lazio 1999/2000 Serie A champions

Name: Sinisa Mihajlovic
Position: Centre Back

Then: Before joining Lazio in 1998, Mihajlovic had been a tried and tested option for thriving Serie A sides. After several years with Roma, the Serbia international signed for Sven Goran-Eriksson’s title challenging Sampdoria in 1994. However, in four years with the club, he never quite managed to inspire them in the title race. When Eriksson moved onto Lazio, he decided to take his man with him for a fee of around £8.5 million. Milhajlovic was renowned for his exception dead-ball ability – holding the record for the number of free kicks ever scored in the Italian top division – and overall power play. He was also known for being one of the hardest and aggressive footballers in the history of the game.

Now: Since retiring from the professional game in 2006, Mihajlovic has forged a successful career as a head coach. He has just taken over as manager of AC Milan after impressing during a two-year spell at Sampdoria. In his post-playing career, he has also managed Bologna, Catania, Fiorentina and the Serbia national side. With regards to his Lazio career, Mihajlovic proved to be an astute purchase by Eriksson the second time round. During the title winning season, the Serbian chipped in with an outstanding total of 13 goals from centre half. He would go on to stay at the club for four more seasons, before finishing his career with Inter Milan.
