The subject of footballers’ wages, especially those in the Premier League, is one of fascination.

Sponsorship and broadcasting money has flooded into England’s top-flight over the past two decades.

This has seen wages rise season after season and there really sees no sign of that slowing.

Liverpool have the third highest wage-bill in the Premier League behind Manchester City and Manchester United, but who are the Reds’ top-paid players?

Here’s the top-5 highest earners at Anfield (all numbers according to spotrac).

5. James Milner – £140,000 per-week

Simply one of the best free transfers in Premier League history. James Milner signed on at Liverpool after leaving Manchester City in 2015. A player who can be relied on to play a number of positions, the former England international has become a key part of a successful side at Anfield. As well as helping them win the 2018 Champions League final, he went one better to win it the following year and looks set to add a third career Premier League title when the season resumes.

– Jordan Henderson – £140,000 per-week

Another consistent English midfielder who is also earning £140,000 per-week is captain Jordan Henderson. Originally labelled a ‘flop’ following his move from Sunderland in 2011, the now 29-year-old has become a vital member of Jurgen Klopp’s team. Not only that, he has put his name in the history books by captaining the club to their sixth European Cup win, first Club World Cup crown and, when the season restarts, an inevitable first Premier League title.

3. Virgil van Dijk – £180,000 per-week

An absolute powerhouse since his switch from Southampton in January 2018, no Liverpool fan would begrudge Virgil van Dijk his healthy pay packet. The Dutchman was impressive for the Saints, despite that, not many would’ve predicted how much of a major force he would become at Anfield. He’s already won three trophies in two-and-a-bit years and is ever so close to making that four.

– Roberto Firmino – £180,000 per-week

Bringing home the same amount as bacon as VVD is a player who very much plays at the other end of the pitch. Roberto Firmino signed for Liverpool as an attacking midfielder in 2015 but has since been reverted into more of a number 9. Despite not having the best goalscoring record the Brazilian’s build-up play and work ethic is a big reason as to why fellow forwards Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are able to excel.

1. Mohamed Salah – £200,000 per-week

Mo Salah is the club’s highest earner, banking a cool £200,000 per-week. The Egypt international has been a revelation since signing moving from Italian side Roma in the summer of 2017, scoring 91 goals in 144 games. With Salah in their forward line, the Reds have won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup and, when the season resumes, they’ll secure their first ever Premier League title.
