Who are Manchester United’s top-5 highest paid players?

The subject of footballers’ wages, especially those in the Premier League, is one of fascination.

Sponsorship and broadcasting money has flooded into England’s top-flight over the past two decades.

This has seen wages rise season after season and there really sees no sign of that slowing.

Manchester United have the highest wage-bill in the Premier League, but who are the Red Devils top paid players?

Here’s the top-5 highest earners at Old Trafford (all numbers according to spotrac).

5. Marcus Rashford – £200,000 per-week

Marcus Rashford penned the contract which earns him £200,000 per-week in the summer of 2019. The local lad has made over 200 appearances for the Red Devils since making his debut in 2016 and he’s still only 22 years of age.

4. Anthony Martial – £250,000 per-week

Not always the most consistent but, on his day, Anthony Martial can be absolutely lethal. Since signing for the Red Devils from Monaco in 2015, the Frenchman has registered 64 goals in 208 matches. His £250,000 per-week deal was sealed in January 2019.

3. Paul Pogba – £290,000 per-week

A player who splits opinion – probably more because of the money he’s earning – is midfielder Paul Pogba. The French World Cup winner possesses bundles of talent but has not always lived up to high expectations since his return from Juventus. That move in 2016 was a then world-record transfer and is earning him £290,000 per-week.

2. Alexis Sanchez – £350,000 per-week

An unusual one in that this player is not currently with the club. Lots was expected when United signed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January 2018 but it simply hasn’t worked out. This saw the Red Devils send the Chilean on loan to Inter Milan in the summer of 2019 but they are still responsible in paying his £350,000 per-week salary.

1. David de Gea – £375,000 per-week

It’s unusual for a club to have their goalkeeper as the highest earner but David de Gea has been the most consistent performer at Old Trafford over the last decade. The Spaniard has had recent struggles but with a record four United Player of the Year trophies and five PFA Team of the Year inclusions it’s clear how valuable he is.
