Name: Mesut Ozil
Position: Midfielder
Still in search of their first Premier League title since ‘The Invincibles’ lifted the crown back in 2003-04, Arsenal’s hopes of lifting their first league title in 12 years could very much come down to the late season form of midfield maestro Mesut Ozil.
The 27-year-old, who has 70 international caps for Germany, has instrumented the Gunners’ title bid from the centre of the park with a series of outstanding performances throughout the 2015-16 campaign so far.
Ozil; who joined Arsene Wenger’s side back in September 2013 for a reported £42.5m from La Liga giants Real Madrid, making him the most expensive German footballer of all time, has scored four goals and provided a remarkable 17 assists in 24 appearances so far this term for the third-placed Gunners.
With Arsenal currently two points adrift of surprise league leaders Leicester City, and level on points with arch-rivals Tottenham (51 points) in second, Ozil’s influence to score and feed the club’s attacking likes of Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez in the final dozen league games of the season could well play a huge role in deciding this season’s title race.
