Name: Georginio Wijnaldum
Position: Midfielder
Regarded as one of the Premier League’s best signings throughout the 2015-16 season; not only has Georginio Wijnaldum become an instant fans favourite at St James’ Park this term, but he also possesses the potential to be Newcastle United’s saviour in terms of their survival bid come May.
The 25-year-old, who has 24 international caps for the Netherlands, joined the Magpies from Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven for a reported £14.5m back in July 2015.
Along with the likes of West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet and Swansea City’s Andre Ayew; Newcastle’s marquee summer signing has proved to be the English top-flight club’s top performer this campaign, with the Dutchman scoring an impressive nine goals and providing three assists in all 26 league games so far.
But with Steve McClaren’s still embroiled in the Premier League’s bottom three on goal difference, Wijnaldum’s best form in a black and white shirt might still have to come within the final dozen league fixtures if Newcastle are to preserve their Premier League status for a seventh successive spell this summer.
