Why Liverpool must snap up Morgan Schneiderlin in January

Morgan Schneiderlin could find himself in the middle of a transfer tug-of-war this January as a host of Premier League clubs are rumoured to have taken an interest in the Frenchman.

Schneiderlin has only made two appearances in the league so far this season and didn’t even manage to make it off the bench during last week’s EFL cup victory over West Ham.

It’s clear that Jose Mourinho doesn’t rate the 27-year-old, meaning he’ll likely be made available this coming January. Should Schneiderlin rediscover the form that got him his big money move to United in the first place, he’ll be a major asset for any Premier League club that signs him.

Liverpool will be on the hunt for reinforcements as they look to claim their first league title of the century.

The Reds have been in fine form so far this season, with the only question mark coming over the defensive side of their game. If the Frenchman settles quickly, there will not be many players better suited to protecting Liverpool’s backline than him in the league.

With that said here are TWO reasons why Liverpool should move for Schneiderlin this January.

They need the added steel to succeed

Most title winners have a sturdiness to their game that they can call upon when the going gets tough. When the opposition have just scored late on and are coming back for more, you need players on the pitch who can help you grind out wins. To do this you need to be solid at the back and not give the other team an inch, Schneiderlin could help them in this respect.

Take last weekends 4-3 loss to Bournemouth, how many teams have you seen lose in such a fashion that end up winning the Premier League, not man I’d wager. If Liverpool were able to pair Schneiderlin with Henderson for the last half an hour at 3-1 up, it would likely have been a different story.

Backline needs protecting

Liverpool have conceded more goals than any other side in the top 8 of the Premier League. Everybody knows they are playing brilliant football and have the offensive side of the game sorted down to a tee, but the fact that they’re still leaking goals regularly will be a cause for concern.

If the Reds manage to keep it a bit tighter at the back during the second half of the campaign then they’ll be hot favourites for the title; an in-form Schneiderlin could make all the difference in this respect.
