Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is rumoured to be interested in making a move for Dutch centre-back Van Dijk this January.

Van Dijk was in impressive form for Southampton last term, slotting straight into the side following his move from Celtic. The 25-year-old’s performances during his first season of English football means there are no shortage of interested parties, particularly in the North West.

Liverpool bosses are keen to snap up the towering Dutchman and you can see why. The Merseysiders are flying in front of goal at the moment, and Klopp will fancy his chances at the title if they can keep it tight at the back.

Van Dijk could be the perfect player for them; he was an integral part of a side that went on a run of 6 Premier League games without conceding a goal last season.

However, Van Dijk has also attracted interest from a host of other teams. Jose Mourinho’s Man United are rumoured to have taken an interest, which could result in a tug-of-war battle between the two rivals.

With Van Dijk’s long-term future very much up in the air, here are THREE reasons why he should choose Liverpool over United this January.

Signing players from Southampton has reaped rewards for Liverpool if you look at their current best XI. Lallana, Lovren, Clyne and Mane are all former Saints who have been performing exceptionally well for the Reds so far this season.

The transition has proved smooth for those four ex-Saints men and Van Dijk can take confidence from that if a move were to materialise.

The Dutchman is a player with the quality to make a similar impact on the Liverpool team should he sign in January, and could be the difference for the Reds this season in a league of such fine margins.
