WSL Round-Up: Manchester City knockout Continental Cup holders Arsenal

After a weekend of dramatic semi-final action, Women’s Super League 1 leaders Manchester City remain on course for a league and cup double as they knocked holders Arsenal out of the FA WSL Continental Cup thanks to a late Jen Beattie goal.

They will face Birmingham City, who brushed aside London Bees, the last WSL2 representative in the competition.

Goals from Kirsty Linnett, Kerys Harrop, Charlie Wellings and an own-goal from keeper Bethan Davies secured their 4-0 win.

In WSL1, Chelsea remain in theoretical contention to retain their title after beating Notts County 2-1 with two goals from captain Katie Chapman.

Her brace came after Jo Potter had put the visitors in front – and after Gemma Davison had missed a penalty and the chance to bring the Blues level.

Liverpool are still pushing at the top of the table with three more points on the board courtesy of a win at Reading.

They left it late, though, with substitute Katie Zelem notching a sharp header with just five minutes remaining.

Doncaster Belles continue to search for their first three points as they fell 4-1 at home to fellow strugglers Sunderland. Maz Pacheco had put the Belles in front before the visitors turned on the style with strikes from Victoria Williams, Abby Holmes, Kelly McDougall and Maddie Hill.
