The long awaited release of FIFA 17 finally came around on Thursday, and a number of fans will be looking forward to seeing how they can go about leading their side to glory!

With the game now on the doorsteps of many around the country, Shoot! takes a look at which players Manchester City fans could look to sign to help clinch domestic and European success.

Pep Guardiola took over from Manuel Pellegrini in the summer and is already beginning to put his stamp on the City team, with signings including goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and defender John Stones.

The former Barcelona boss also added some extra bite going forward, with the additions of Nolito and Leroy Sane during the summer window.

However, some fans may feel that a little bit more may be needed, so here are FIVE players that City fans should look to sign in order to hold off the challenge from neighbours Manchester United and win the title…

Diego Godin

If Vincent Kompany is anywhere near as injury-prone on FIFA as he appears to be in reality, City fans may want to invest in another central defender.

You’d be left with Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones – two good defenders but certainly not the top five in the world. And you might need some of the best in the world to go on and win European titles.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin would be an excellent signing.

In reality, City reportedly targeted the Uruguayan centre-half last summer but Godin signed a new deal with the Spanish club, yet he’s that good a defender on FIFA, with an overall rating of 88, that you should go all out to sign him.

His passing is pretty good, he’s a very physical centre-back but, most importantly, he’s one of the best defensive players on the game, and would be a fantastic addition to the City squad.

Bruno Peres

One player who would certainly provide healthy competition to the full-backs at the Etihad is Bruno Peres.

Guardiola was linked with a move for the youngster last summer and, although no move materialised, it’s easy to see why he was interested in the 26-year-old.

The Brazilian has an overall rating of 81 which, actually, is one less than his rivals for the right-back position, Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna.

However, Peres possesses pace and dribbling skills which comfortably trump the aforementioned both, so would definitely be a shrewd signing to add further depth to the full-back areas.

He can also play as a winger, which could be advantageous, such are his 91 acceleration and 81 dribbling statistics.

He is currently on loan at Torino, which could scupper any immediate deal, but holding out to sign Peres could turn out to be an excellent move.

James Rodriguez

Another player City have been linked to in the past year, and one who could make a big impression on FIFA 17.

James Rodriguez has fallen down the pecking order somewhat at Real Madrid, but his quality is evident for all to see.

He would add another option in what is already an incredibly talented attacking unit and, although his stats are slightly inferior to the other central attacking midfielder at the club, Kevin De Bruyne, he would add a more explosive edge to the City attack, such are his brilliant long shot and volley stats.

He’s certainly someone to consider when you start assessing potential transfer targets.

Robert Lewandowski

Signing Robert Lewandowski would be a huge statement of intent.

The Bayern Munich man worked with Guardiola at the German club and was loosely linked with a move to Manchester in the summer.

However, you should try and go out and get him for your team. And it’s pretty clear from the last few years exactly why.

With an overall rating of 90, he’s statistically better than Sergio Aguero, who’s widely regarded as the best player in the Premier League.

When you’ve got the creative quality just behind, you need somebody who’s going to put the ball in the net, and Lewandowski’s 91 finishing attribute suggests that, alongside Aguero, the two of them could fire you to glory.

Mahmoud Dahoud

Another player with bags of potential, and another player that the big clubs in Europe are keeping an eye on.

The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder was linked with a move to Liverpool recently and, based on his performances and indeed his FIFA stats, it’s clear why.

Already rated 79, Dahoud has the potential to reach 88, and thus be one of the best midfielders on the game. He could provide healthy competition in years to come for Ilkay Gundogan, Fernando, and Fernandinho.

His movement is particularly strong, as is his short passing – his overall rating has increased by six since FIFA 16, and they are raising his potential rating as well.

He could be a serious player in a few years’ time.
